Free Hurricane Map provided
by www.wut2c.com You can use this map by bringing it up in your browser and looking at it to determine where the storm is or you can download in WinZip format with samples and instructions or BMP format with no instructions, and right click on it to save this file to your computer. You can always come back here and see the Sample as Below. The download file is in WinZip format. If you are not using Windows XP (which can open the file) or don't have WinZip on your computer you can go to the WinZip website which offers a free evaluation download. Download and install this great utility then double click on the Atlantic Hurricane Map zip file that you downloaded from us. The WinZip utility will display the files contained in it . Click on the "Extract" button and tell it where you want to save the files. The Hurricane Map itself comes in BMP format and will open with Windows Paint or Apples QuickTime. Save this map to your desktop for ease of locating it. Perhaps the best way to use the map is to use the "File/Save as" to create a file that will indicate the year or the particular storm such as "Hurricanes 05" or "Ivan". Then you can plot it by using the tools provided by the Paint program. Or you can use it simply as a reference by pinpointing the location of the center of the Hurricane from the co-ordinates provided by your favorite TV station, or from the NOAA Storm Prediction Center website at http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/wwa/ . You use the Latitudes (along the right hand side) and
Longitudes (along the bottom) to
locate the North and West location respectively. Example N-17 + W-44 degrees
would put it out on the Atlantic, whereas a follow up co-ordinate release may
place it at N-18 + W-63 would place it about 100 miles East of San Juan Puerto
Rico. For a larger example click on the image below. We suggest you select a color from the palette at the bottom of the Paint window and then the line feature and the line thickness. Start the line at the location of the last co-ordinates then click and drag you mouse to the new co-ordinates then release the mouse. If you make an error, go up to the toolbar and select "edit/undo" to remove the last action. You can do this several time to remove several unwanted changes that is up until you save it. After you have drawn the track you can then switch tools to indicate the size. We do this by using the spray paint tool and spray a patch to indicate the approximate size. If you plan to continue using the same map all season long, then forgo the spray paint tool and just continue to use the line tool, using a different color for each storm. |
