Washington:

There are several parks and attractions in this state that are part of the National Parks Service. These can be accessed  through the interactive map

You can just imagine the possible activities this fantastic state has to offer.  Choose the activity of you choice and follow the links to find a guide service or suppliers.

For a great variety of  maps see the University of Texas Library.

The state of Washington at the northwest corner of the contiguous United States has a climate unlike any of the other states. The warm Chinese current that pass it's shore makes for a mild wet climate in the area west of the continental devide. While the rest of the northern states are digging their way out of snow people in western Washington will be playing golfplanting pansies, or engaging in some radical form of adventure such as Whitewater Rafting.

Then there is always volcano watching. There are numerous volcanoes in the state of Washington with perhaps the most well known would be Mount St Helens, which has the potential to erupt at any time. When it last erupted in 1984 the blast that was the primary eruption caused 3 cubic miles of material to be disgorged in the matter of moments. We are hoping that someone will contribute some photos of  the 1984 eruption and if if re-erupts again in the near future the we definitely will want some of these.

When People think of Washington the most common pictures that form is of the Seattle Space Needle, the Fisherman's Market and naturally all the fruit that is produced there.

The thumbnails below are of or from the Space needle that was originally constructed for the Seattle's World Fair. On a clear day you can see several volcanoes cones from the needle's viewing deck and rotating restaurant.

Hiking is one of the most common outdoor activities in this state. With the diversity created by the lay of the land you can find any kind of terrain that you might desire. Coastline hiking can be extremely rewarding and will most likely test some of your boulder or rock climbing abilities while offering quite secluded coves to rest in. However if forested or upland terrain is more your preference the you only need to hike a couple of miles inland and you will be in some of the prettiest areas anywhere. The mountains that run through the center of the state  will present a more strenuous work out rewarding you with breathtaking views. Go on over the mountains to the East and you will notice a difference in the vegetation as it gives way to a drier climate. Hiking in the Okanogan valley will expose you to the rolling hills covered with fir, pine and jupiter. You might even see a tumble weed. A far cry fro the coastal region, but great for Camping, hunting, biking and ATVs and other forms of Off Roading. Be sure to read our hiking tip and Hiking checklist

There couldn't be a world famous fish Market if the wasn't fish. So fish there is. Salmon and flounder in the ocean and trout in the streams, lakes and rivers. Charter boats to take you fishing are available and provide everything you need including the gear, or you can hire a guide who will take you into the back bays  and up the mouth of streams  most people never knew were there. Naturally you can go it alone and launch your own boat or fish from shore. Either way any day you can go fishing is a good day.
