If you are going to see the Grand Canyon, allow a few days if you can, as there is a lot to see and do. There is limited amount of accommodations and it is best to make reservations as much as 5 months in advance. Mather Campground is operated by the National Park Service and located in Grand Canyon Village, this campground offers tent and RV camping (no hook-ups). Reservations are required from April through November. A maximum of two vehicles and six people are allowed per site. Sites may be reserved up to five months in advance. Mather Campground is handled on a first-come, first-served basis from approximately 01 Dec to 01 Mar of each year. Group sites are also available.
Adjacent to Mather Campground, Trailer Village offers RV sites with hook-ups. Reservations may be made by calling 303-297-2757. Back to the Grand Canyon Page Scroll down for additional sites and service or North Rim Camping and Backcountry Camping Additional Camping Information Desert View Campground (26 miles east of Grand Canyon Village; no hook-ups) is open mid-May through mid-Oct and operates on a first-come, first-served basis only. Cost: $10.00 per site (maximum of two vehicles and six people per site). Ten-X Campground: The U.S. Forest Service operates Ten-X Campground 2 miles / 3 km south of Tusayan, mid April through September. No hook-ups or showers; pit toilets and cold water faucets are located throughout the campground. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and rarely fills. Cost: $10.00 per vehicle per night with a maximum of two vehicles per site. A group site is available for groups of up to 100 people, reservations required. Call: 928-638-2443 Dispersed Camping: Camping "at-large" is permitted in the national forest outside the park. Camping must be at least .25 mile / .4 km away from Highway 64. Other restrictions may apply. Write: Tusayan Ranger District, Kaibab National Forest Camper Village: This commercial RV campground (with hook-ups) is located in Tusayan. Call: 928-638-2887. Fees: $15.00 - $23.00 per night. Open seasonally. Services A variety of services are available inside the park at Grand Canyon Village and Desert View (at the east entrance to the park), and outside the park in Tusayan (7 miles / 11 km) south of the park. Dining: A wide variety of restaurants are available in the park, from the formal El Tovar Hotel to cafeterias at Yavapai and Maswik Lodges. Tusayan offers both fast food and more formal dining. Fuel: Gas, diesel, and propane are available in Tusayan and seasonally at Desert View. Showers and Laundry: Showers and laundry facilities are available adjacent to Mather Campground in Grand Canyon Village and in Tusayan. No facilities are available at Desert View. Groceries: Food and supplies are available at Canyon Village Marketplace in Grand Canyon Village, at the General Store at Desert View, and in Tusayan. Camping Equipment: Canyon Village Marketplace in Grand Canyon Village offers sale and rentals of camping, hiking, and backpacking equipment. Limited repair services are also available. Other: Post office, Western Union office, bank, and automatic teller machine (ATM) are all available at the Marketplace in Grand Canyon Village. North Rim Camping and services
North Rim Campground North Rim Campground is located in the park a mile from the rim (no hook-ups). Reservations are required. Campground may remain open past 15 Oct, weather permitting.Open from mid May to mid Oct. Campsites are $ 15.00, no hook ups, dump station available. Scroll down for additional sites and services or Backcountry Camping Back to the Grand Canyon Page Camping Outside of Park DeMotte Campground: Operated by the U.S. Forest Service, 16 miles / 28 km north of the North Rim, summer only, no hook-ups or reservations, usually full by noon. $ 10.00 per vehicle per night. Free evening programs. Opens: 01 June. Jacob Lake Campground: Operated by the U.S. Forest Service, 45 miles / 75 km north of the North Rim, summer only, no hookups or reservations. $ 10.00 per vehicle per night. Free evening programs. Dispersed Camping: Permitted in the national forest outside the park; there are restrictions, however. Inquire at North Rim Visitor Center inside park, or at Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center at Jacob Lake: 928-643-7298. In winter contact: North Kaibab Ranger District, Kaibab National Forest Kaibab Camper Village (Jacob Lake): Commercial campground located .25 mile / .5 km south of Jacob Lake on Arizona Highway 67. Services A variety of services are available inside the park either adjacent to the Grand Canyon Lodge or the North Rim Campground, and outside the park at the Kaibab Lodge and Country Store (18 miles / 29 km ) and Jacob Lake (45 miles / 72 km) north of the park. (visitor services inside the park are only open from mid-May to mid-October, after mid-October NO food, gasoline, or lodging will be available inside park boundaries) Dining: Grand Canyon Lodge has a dining room and snack bar. Kaibab Lodge and Jacob Lake Inn have restaurants. Fuel: Gas and minor auto repairs are available at the service station inside the park. Gas, diesel, and auto supplies are also available at the Kaibab Lodge Country Store and Jacob Lake. Showers / Laundry: Facilities are adjacent to the North Rim Campground. Groceries / Camping Supplies: Supplies can be purchased at the General Store adjacent to the North Rim Campground and outside the park at the Kaibab Lodge Country Store. Other: A post office is available at the North Rim located in the Grand Canyon Lodge complex.
Backcountry Camping Back to the Grand Canyon Page or Top of page All overnight camping below the rim requires a Permit from the Backcountry office. This is true for undeveloped areas on the rim as well (camping in developed areas is restricted to existing campgrounds). Permits are required and must be made in person or by mail or FAX using the permit request form (telephone requests are not accepted). Applying well in advance is recommended although a small number of permits are sometimes available for the same day. There is a fee of $ 10.00 per permit plus an additional fee of $ 5.00 per night per person. The Backcountry Information Center is open daily for walk in visitors from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Mountain Standard Time. Backcountry Information Center staff answer information telephone lines at: 928-638-7875 between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, except on federal holidays.
