Alaska:

Alaska is such an amazing place. Perhaps because of it pristine nature and the extremes of it's seasons. Whatever it is, it makes Alaskans even more unique, and it does take a unique breed to live here.  Telling you about it doesn't do it justice. To fully grasp it you would have to be born and die there and maybe not even then.

Camping is always a favorite pastime for Alaskans and visitors to this great state. While you can find any multitude of places to go wilderness camping, we have comprised a list of Campgrounds located in this state

The change of the season is slow to summer and quick to winter with very little time for fall or spring. Everything seems different. It may be because everything has so much more value, what ever you have is dear to you and nothing can be taken for granted. The fish are firmer, the reds so brilliant, and the white of winter so intense.

If one were to have to say something negative about Alaska other than the length and depth of the winter, it would be the secondary roads and mosquitoes, but other than that it's great. Enjoy the pictures.

The Women of Alaska : Those that live in the cities while being a bit more refined are no less tough than their sisters in the wilderness. You have to be tough to be in Alaska. This is a place where the environment can bring a whole town together in  in times of crisis, from a missing fishing boat to an overland traveler who didn't make their scheduled arrival. To say all this is taken in stride would be cutting it short. Sure it is accepted as the hazards of living above or near the Arctic Circle but these women have to be tough to adapt to the pressures of these stressful times. Because of the constant exposure to to these rigors they have a balanced set of values and will be less likely to be high strung.  Many women live in frontier living conditions and have to carry in wood, haul water and skin and butcher their meat.  Living alone is common or  at least for a good part of the time. These ladies will likely have helped to construct the home and are as handy with tools as their male counterparts. If this makes you think there would be no romantic passion in them you would be wrong. They have passion about everything, and it carries over to the private moments.

The men of Alaska are as tough as they come. Whatever they do they have to do it with intense purpose and properly the first time. Working out of doors can kill, yet it has to be done. It gets so  cold that it hurts and your finger don't want to bend, but not to keep moving is almost certain failure. The energy required to maintain means that the amount of food consumed is easily twice of what the average person in the lower 49 needs. This energy is often translated into muscle jst because of the physical demands. Shoveling multiple feet of snow, chopping firewood, trudging through the snow and nothing is ever easy. You know this has to be character building and there are some characters in the north but most while a bit gruff, are lovable.

There are several parks and attractions in this state that are part of the National Parks Service.  Be sure  to look up Denali National Park and Preserve, where the tallest peak in the USA resides- Mount McKinley, 20320 feet tall. These can be accessed  through the interactive map     Or by accessing our National
Parks of Alaska Page
