British
Columbia is Canada's westernmost province and is one of North America's most
mountainous regions. It is bounded on the north by Yukon Territory and the
Northwest Territories; on the east by Alberta; on the south by the states of
Montana, Idaho, and Washington; and on the west by the Pacific Ocean and Alaska.
The crest of the Rocky Mountains forms the southeastern boundary. The province
is the only part of Canada on the Pacific Ocean, and it includes Vancouver
Island and the Queen Charlotte Islands off the western coast. British Columbia
is Canada’s third largest province in area and population, behind Québec and
Ontario. Much of it is rugged and mountainous. While forestry, mining, fishing
and agriculture remain important to B.C.'s economy, there is strong growth in
new industries such as eco-tourism, film and high tech. British
Columbia is Canada's gateway to the Asia-Pacific and is economically and
geographically part of the northwest region of North America. More than half the
population lives in the southwestern corner of the province, which includes the
largest city, Vancouver, and the provincial capital, Victoria located on
Vancouver Island.
The
British Columbia coastal area is blessed like no other. Living in the area put
you with in only a few miles of the inland regions graced with Mountains and
Skiing or forested hills and valleys ribboned by fresh water streams and rivers.
In the opposite direction and again only minutes away is some of the greatest
sailing, fishing and aquatic sports, all taking place in the straits and between
the hundreds of forest covered islands. The temperature is generally mild as a
result if the warm Chinese current that flow just off-shore.

beauty, hospitality and vast open wilderness spaces, where hiking
and backpacking experiences are out of this world |

Few cruising grounds in the world can match British Columbia's coastline
for stunning scenery: majestic fjords, half-hidden inlets, hundreds of
islands... And to complete this perfect picture - a temperate climate! |
Heading East towards the Rockies takes you through a myriad of vegetation
from redwoods and cedar to pines, evergreens and broadleaf forests. Some of the
finest hunting, fishing and camping takes place al through the interior. BC it
loaded with a multitude of locations for rock and gem collecting and is a
favorite place for rockhounds.

The coastal island are the jewels in BC's crown. Victoria on
Vancouver island is a perpetual garden with a temperate moist
climate. Exploring the Island is a favorite pastime for Hikers
and Kayakers and offers some of the most pristine and secluded natural
beauty.

Princess Royal Island, home of the legendary Kermode or Spirit Bear

These islands, part of the chain of 6,000 islands that shelter the
British Columbia coastline between Washington and Alaska, lie beyond the
quick-access range of Vancouver and Victoria. Located between Campbell
River and the mainland of British Columbia, the Discovery Islands dot
the intricate waterways in some of the most spectacular scenery in the
world.
Vancouver
While the largest city in BC it is not the
capitol. That honor goes to Victoria on Vancouver Island. While both
cities enjoy the temperate climate that this region is fortunate
to have, Vancouver being on the mainland has given it a leg up
on population growth. Much of Vancouver's newest residences came
from Asia and Hong Kong in particular. There was a mass exodus
just as the Island of Hong Kong was being returned by the
British to China in 1999.

Vancouver sits in the Frazer Valley Basin and has mountains
to it's rear and a bay to the West. Snuggled along the Southwestern
edge of the bay is Stanley Park known for it's flora and fauna
surrounded by intense development. Some of the largest cedars
and redwoods in Canada can be found in the park.
The park has an aquarium on site, where you can spend some
time watching the various whales and other aquatic animals in a
setting that mimics a more natural setting
