Roommate Specifics

Roommates differ from most other types of rentals. You have to live with a roommate and your peace of mind and even possibly your safety may be at risk. 

In most locations (verify for your location) you are allowed to specify the type of person that you are looking for in a roommate. You can state your preferences in regards to the sex of the person, whether they are employed, neat, non smoker, a student, etc. but not usually the race or physical challenges. The list of allowable requirements may vary from state to state or country.
It is a selective process and you are normally not be required to rent to someone based on personal incompatibility. Again check to see if this is an acceptable reason for refusing to accept someone as a roommate.
