Kite Boarding

One of the most radical new ways to harness the air! Kite Boarding (Kite surfing), is a union of wind and water forces and  utilizes the techniques also applied when paragliding, boogie boarding, windsurfing, and even snowboarding. This new sport has become the hottest new sport for the activity minded individuals.

Skim across the top of the water faster than a wind surfer, catch air as high as 15-20 feet (5-7 Meters). Nothing blows the minds of spectators like an accomplished kite boarder with a good 15 mile an hour wind.

Lessons are available from some of the sports shops or possibly even from the beach rental vendors. While they can give you the basics, an understanding of aerodynamic and how to utilize the wind would certainly help.

Surprisingly you don't just have to let the wind push your kite in the direction the wind is traveling but you can go against the wind at an angle just like a sailboat. This is based on the proven concept that the concave side (hollow) of the kite becomes pressurized, filling the cavity and causes the air to slide across it fairly uninhibited. Where as along the convexed (bulged) side the air has to travel a greater distance, within the same amount of time that the air on the convex side has to travel the much shorter distance. This causes the air on the bulged side to be stretched and creates a fluid area of low pressure, which sucks the kite along. Surprisingly this is actually a faster ride than if the wind was directly behind you back and blowing into the kite.

This is one of those sports that you just have get out there and do it. Even with some instruction it will require you to get there and experiment with different scenarios.

The more you get to do a sport the more you will enjoy it. We have found that being prepared to leave at a moment notice will increase the number of time that you will actually get out and do it. Ultimately the best way to be prepared is to have all the necessary gear already stored in a "gear trailer". This is a trailer dedicated to this purpose. READ ON.
