Boating

A day on the water.
There is nothing like it. Maybe it evokes prenatal memories or maybe it is like the lyrics from Leonard Cohen's, Suzanne: "All men shall be sailors then until the sea shall free them.". For most of us there is something mystical about water and all her ways. The romance and respect of the sea has long been the subject of many great works like "The Ancient Mariner" and "The Old Man and the Sea". Anyone who has spent any amount of time on the water knows what an author the sea is. There are many great stories in those who have felt the sting of the salt as it is whipped off the crests of a tempest sea.

Boating as a recreational sport comes in many forms and is practiced by persons of all stature and in crafts of every description. As far back in recorded history and beyond, mankind has crossed the water as a means of transportation, the moving of commercial goods and was a skill utilized by the military to maintain and expand their borders. There is no doubt that the use for enjoyment was also prevalent in ancient times. We know Cleopatra of Egypt, who  was considered a deity and never had to walk but was carried wherever she wanted to go,  had a pleasure boat that sailed the Nile.
